The Vocations Commission (VC) is made up of Teachers, School Chaplains, Religious and Clergy and is the Vocations ‘Promotion’ arm of the Vocations Service. The VC’s key focus is to respond to the Diocesan Pastoral Plan in its call for the need to support a “Culture of Vocation” in our Diocese. The VC responds to this call by providing inputs focussed on Vocation for the various parishes, schools and universities around our Diocese. In parishes the Vocations Director is committed to visiting each parish in the Diocese and preaching on Vocation along with providing Retreat Days and Confirmation Group inputs. In Secondary Schools; Assemblies, Class and Year Group Inputs and Masses with a Vocational theme are some of the ways in which we promote Vocation among both staff and students. In Primary Schools; inputs are provided for Year 6 groups along with Cathedral Tours for 1st Holy Communion Groups. Retreats and workshops are also offered for Universities. The VC is also responsible for the annual Walsingham Parish and Schools Pilgrimage which provides a tremendous opportunity to reflect on Our Lady’s openness to God’s call and encourages the thousand or so pilgrims to follow her lead. The VC is also responsible for producing publicity material to support prayer and provide information on the some of the different ways in which each of us can respond to our Baptismal call to follow Christ.
