Briars’ Big Birthday Bash
This year, the Briars Catholic Youth Retreat Centre celebrates 40 years of work with young people. The first ever group arrived on September 12th 1969 and every year since has seen about 5000 young people come on retreat. Father Joe Wheat, the present Director of the Youth Service, said ‘Over its 40 years, the Briars has paid host to roughly 150,000 young people from all over the diocese with over 150 gap year volunteers working on the team. This anniversary is really something to celebrate so come and join us on the Open Day.

School groups, confirmation candidates, youth groups, family groups ........... a whole host of people come to spend some time on retreat.
The central celebration for the 40th anniversary is the Briars Open Day. Held on Sunday 28th June, it is a great day out for all the family and a chance to meet old friends and celebrate the past year. Starting with Mass at 1.00, celebrated this year by Bishop Malcolm McMahon, the afternoon continues with entertainment, games, attractions and refreshments.
