Dear Visitor. . .
I warmly welcome you to the Parish Website for the Cathedral Church of St Barnabas and the Nottingham Parish of St Augustine of England. The Cathedral of St Barnabas, has been a place of praise and worship for over 170 years and is open daily from 7am to 7pm.
This beautiful church was designed and built under renowned architect A.W.N. Pugin and the foundation stone was laid by Bishop Nicholas Wiseman in 1842, who had brought with him the relics of Saint Barnabas from Rome. The Cathedral's importance in the restoration of the Church in England is not inconsiderable, as at the time of its opening the Cathedral was the largest Catholic church to have been built in England since the Reformation.
Visitors are most welcome to come and visit our beautiful Cathedral, designed by Augustus Pugin, it is one of the hidden gems of the City of Nottingham.
The Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Catholic Diocese of Nottingham which covers the counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland.
You will find on this website details of Mass & Confession times for both the Cathedral of St Barnabas and St Augustine of England, as well as details of other upcoming events in the Bulletin section.
With my prayers and best wishes,
Canon Geoffrey Hunton. STB, BA
Cathedral Dean and Parish Priest of St Augustine of England
