The sessions are timeless so can be used any time during 2015 and beyond to initiate prayer and reflection about the foundation stones of Catholic evangelisation. Each session includes a story, questions to ponder, a Scripture reading, prayer and extract from Evangelii Gaudium. The materials aim to inspire a practical and local response to the call to share our faith.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)
We have a new RCIA resource pack available for parishes which provides background information on RCIA, how to set up an RCIA team and some helpful contacts. Trainings are also available for parishes wishing to set up a new RCIA team. Please contact Julia Palmer for more details.
The Bishop’s Certificate in Catechesis is a foundational course of twelve sessions covering the basics of faith and also the practical skills needed for catechesis. It runs over 9 months on one or two evenings a month for two hours and ends with a commissioning service. The course will be helpful for new catechists and also for those who wish to learn more and improve their skills as catechists. The other great benefit of the course is that catechists get together from different parishes and share their experience and best practice.
It's estimated that at least two-thirds of the baptised Catholic community in England and Wales are non-churchgoing - approximately four million people. This makes a significant constituency of people who, in most cases, self-identify as Catholic but never or rarely attend Mass. The Department for Evangelisation and Catechesis has initiated a national project to support ministry to this group of people. Read more here
